The verdict will be announced within the next nine months. The 612 Fund, created in 2019 to provide assistance to pro-democracy protesters, was shut down in 2021. The defendants—including lawyer Margaret Ng, singer Denise Ho, former parliamentarian Cyd Ho, and academic Hui Po-keung—were each fined HK$4,000. Although the case is not being tried under the National Security Law imposed by Beijing in 2020, pro-democracy organizations argue that it has political undertones and seeks to punish pro-democracy activism and limit religious and civil liberties in Hong Kong.
