When it comes to your parents, don’t take inventory based on what everyone else is doing.
Don’t think:
“Why should I give if my siblings don’t?”
“Why should I help if no one else even tries?”
Caring for your mom and dad matters whether anyone else shows up or not.
And it’s not always about money.
Not everything in life has a price tag.
Sometimes it’s just being there.
A morning coffee together.
Lunch on a Tuesday.
Helping with small things around the house.
Noticing what they need before they have to ask.
Simple questions like:
“What can I pick up for you?”
“What do you need?”
“How are you feeling today?”
But most of us reach for excuses:
“I don’t have the money.”
“They get Social Security — they’ll be fine.”
“I’m not the only child.”
“I’m busy.”
“Work is crazy right now.”
“It’s too far / too late / too inconvenient.”
The painful irony?
When parents are gone, suddenly the money appears.
Suddenly there’s time.
Work isn’t that urgent anymore.
The drive doesn’t feel that far. …More

Virgen de Zapopan - January 18th, 2026 | No Greater Delight
No Greater Delight is a daily Marian podcast meant to start the day with a Marian touch. After examining the Marian feasts celebrated throughout the world on a given day, Fr. Nate offers a brief reflection to help make our love for Our Lady concrete in daily living. The title "No Greater Delight" is inspired by a homily of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, wherein he expresses his joy in preaching about the Virgin Mother, even though he acknowledges the challenge of adequately praising her. Notre-Dame de Bon-Espoir

Sources have told the Catholic Herald that Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes did not attend the extraordinary consistory because he was directly barred from travelling by the Nicaraguan state, according to those with direct knowledge of the situation. The decision is understood to be linked to the continuing persecution of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, where Church leaders remain subject to surveillance, restrictions on movement, and punitive measures by the authorities.

Cardinal Brenes and Christian persecution in Nicaragua

The absence of Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of Managua at this months extraordinary consistory raised questions amongst Catholics. The 76-year-old cardinal, the only member of the College of Cardinals from Nicaragua, said he had checked all normal channels of communication without finding any summons from the Vatican. “I won’t be there. They didn’t call me. I checked my email and WhatsApp. Nothing,” he told Vos TV on 5 January, shortly before the consistory opened.
His absence from the first extraordinary consistory convened by Pope Leo XIV drew attention both in Nicaragua and in Rome. According to canon 353 of the Code of Canon Law, ordinary consistories are usually attended by cardinals present in Rome and are held for consultation with the Pope and for acts of particular solemnity. Extraordinary consistories, by contrast, require the presence of cardinals from across the global Church, as “all Cardinals are summoned to an extraordinary Consistory, which takes place when …

Consistory Done Like Middle School - Leo XIV Is Responsible

Journalists Raymond Arroyo and Robert Royal, and canon lawyer and priest Gerald Murray of New York talked on January 16 about the consistory of January 7-8. A short sequence, video below.
Robert Royal commenting on Cardinal Grech’s contribution on synod:
I think you hear that and you say, what in God’s name can that possibly mean? This is the gobbledygook we’ve been listening to for years about synodality and all this confusion. I mean, one of the things I’ve heard from sources is that many of these cardinals have said, "Look, we’re just confused about this. We’re tired of going over the same things again and again." These pronouncements keep coming out.
When I read Cardinal Grech, I said to myself: This guy knows they haven’t gotten anything substantial done. You can try to preserve the illusion that there’s somehow a dynamic age of the Spirit underway, but it’s about to die.
Raymond Arroyo:
Well, he says there are good fruits here. He says fruits are blooming all over the place. …More

“I’m distressed we’re still talking about Synodality” “Synodality as conceived by Pope Francis is an ongoing revolution in the Church”

Fr Murray commenting on Synodality during the consistory: "It’s troubling that Synodality is still such a point of contention." And: "As Pope Francis envisions it, Synodality represents a continuing transformation within the Church."

Profile
Daughter of King Bela IV of Hungary and Marie Laskaris; grand-daughter of the Byzantine emperor. When Hungary was freed from the Tatars, her parents had pledged their next child to God. To keep this promise, Margaret was placed in a Dominican convent at Veszprem, Hungary at age 3; Blessed Helen of Hungary served as her novice mistress. She transferred at age ten to the convent of the Blessed Virgin founded by her parents on the Hasen Insel near Buda, where she lived the rest of her life. At one point her father arranged a marriage for her to King Ottokar II of Bohemia, but she adamently refused. She took vows at age 18. Known for severe self-imposed penances, and for kindness to those of lower social station. The investigation for her canonization lists 27 miracles including healings and a case of awakening from death.

GOP Bill to Ban Insider Trading in Congress …

GOP Bill to Ban Insider Trading in Congress Advances Without Support from a Single Democrat - Slay News

A Republican-led effort to crack down on insider trading in Congress advanced out of committee this week, even as every single House Democrat withheld support for the measure.
The House Administration Committee voted to advance the
Stop Insider Trading Act, sponsored by Bryan Steil (R-WI), sending the legislation to the full House for consideration.
If enacted, the bill would prohibit members of Congress from buying individual stocks while in office and require lawmakers to provide notice seven to fourteen days before selling securities.
Members would still be permitted to invest in index funds and mutual funds and to reinvest dividends from assets they already own.
Democrats Push for Full Divestment
Democrats on the committee argued the proposal does not go far enough, pressing instead for a total trading ban that would require lawmakers to fully divest their assets before taking office.
During the two-hour markup, Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), the committee’s ranking member, introduced …

Systematic Psychological Abuse within Benedictine Sisters of Montmartre

An independent investigation has documented decades of spiritual abuse, psychological control, and systemic governance failures within the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre. The contemplative community is based at the Sacré-Cœur of Paris, France.
Background and timeline
The congregation, founded in the late 19th century in connection with the national vow and devotion to the Sacred Heart, is dedicated to liturgical prayer, perpetual adoration, and the reception of pilgrims at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
In June 2021, the congregation initiated an internal review.
In 2022, former members were formally included in the process.
In February 2023, the sisters publicly acknowledged serious internal abuses, issued an apology, and requested an external investigation.
The independent report, completed after 18 months of work, was published in January 2026.
Scope of the investigation
The commission conducted 159 interviews with current sisters, former members, priests, bishops …More

These “independent commissions” do not understand the meaning of suffering, sacrifice, and self-denial, and call all of this “abuse of power.” It is entirely in line with the post-conciliar church, which is trying to eliminate the cross from Christ's message.

“Point VIII ~ Of the hindrances to a Right Discernment of Things, and of the method to be adopted in order to understand them properly
The cause of our not rightly discerning all these things and many others is, that we conceive a love or hatred of them at first sight.
Our understanding is thus darkened, so that it cannot judge of them correctly.
Lest you fall into this delusion, take all possible care to keep your will pure and free from inordinate affection for any thing whatsoever.
When any object, then, is presented to you, view it with your understanding; and consider it maturely before you are moved by hatred to reject it, if it be a thing contrary to your inclinations, or by love to desire it, if it be pleasing to them.
For thus the understanding, being unclouded by passion, will be free and clear, and able to perceive the truth, and to …More

What we can learn from bad reactions to the 'sede' Sisters of St Thomas Aquinas online

The point here is not documenting a meaningless Twitter drama, but drawing out the interesting questions and principles behind it.
(WM Round-Up) – For several months, X has seen a few viral videos of white-habited Sisters singing Gregorian chant in a high gothic church.
These videos garner much admiration, for the beauty of the singing and the architecture, and appreciation for a young religious order of Sisters.
The current controversy
But admiration is not the only response, for this is not just any religious order. The Sisters of St Thomas Aquinas, Florida, are what others call “sedevacantists.”
They hold that:
“… the members of the Novus Ordo hierarchy, despite any and all appearances of authority, are not true Catholic popes nor true Catholic bishops, and do not possess the authority to rule, for they are the authors of …

Strange that with respect to anything traditional Catholic post-conciliar hypocrites lose their usual manners and forget about "imperfect communion" or brothers/sisters in less than full unity.
Logically, assuming hypothetically as truth revolutionary premises of post-conciliarists these sisters should be placed in a higher degree of communion with them than pastors and "orthodox" clergy they meet and flatter in their dialogue, and do not dare to call those pastors and clergy "schismatics".

Because the Church is in free fall, chaos and confusion I believe these nuns are doing the best they can. They are not theologians, but are praying and not rioting, and it appears their congregation is growing.
