The War On Free Speech In Australia Is Getting Cartoonishly Absurd

Reading by Tim Foley:
A mentally disabled Australian woman is being prosecuted for antisemitic hate crimes after accidentally pocket-dialing a Jewish nutritionist, resulting in a blank voicemail which caused the nutritionist “immediate fear and nervousness” because she thought some of the background noises in the recording sounded a bit like gunshots.
We’re being told we need more of this. There’s “hate speech” legislation presently in the works to make this worse. Australia’s controversial Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill appears to be explicitly crafted to dramatically increase the scale, frequency and consequences of the exact sort of dynamics we’re seeing in this case, and to eradicate opposition to Israel throughout the nation.
This is how overextended Australia’s freakout over “antisemitism” already is. You can literally just be sitting there not saying or doing anything and still find yourself getting arrested and prosecuted for an antisemitic hate crime …

Cardinal Parolin Confirms Report on Vatican Mediation With Maduro

On Saturday, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin confirmed that he tried to find a solution in Venezuela that would avoid bloodshed, including seeking an agreement with Nicolás Maduro and other representatives of the government. The Cardinal added that these efforts ultimately failed.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event, Parolin said: "We tried what also appeared in some newspapers". This was an indirect reference to earlier reporting by Washington Post about Vatican involvement in efforts to secure a safe passage for Maduro before his capture by the United States.
Cardinal Parolin added that the Vatican had always supported a peaceful solution, but that it eventually found itself faced with a fait accompli, meaning the situation had developed beyond what diplomacy could influence.
In short, Parolin’s Saturday remarks publicly confirmed that:
- The Vatican tried to broker a peaceful exit for Maduro
- This included negotiating directly or indirectly with Maduro and his …More

They Might Be Saints | Bishop Frederic Baraga
Irenaeus Frederic Baraga
(June 29, 1797 – January 19, 1868; Slovene: Irenej Friderik Baraga) was a Slovenian Catholic missionary to the United States, grammarian and author of Christian poetry and hymns in Native American languages. He served as the first bishop of Sault Sainte Marie and Marquette in Michigan from 1865 to 1868. He previously served as bishop of Sault Sainte Marie from 1857 to 1865 and as vicar apostolic of Upper Michigan from 1853 to 1857.
Baraga's letters about his missionary work were published widely in Europe, inspiring the priests John Neumann and Francis Xavier Pierz to emigrate to the United States. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI declared Baraga as "venerable."

France's demographic winter

In France, last year the number of deaths was greater than the number of births. It's a nation that is now experiencing a demographic winter and, if the pattern continues, will eventually die.
The information was recently released by the
French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). The total number of deaths in 2025 was 651,000. while the number of births was 645,000. Anyone, can figure out what that negative number means in the long run.
Here's the published data translated to English from French:
As of 1 January 2026, the population of France is estimated at 69.1 million inhabitants, i.e. 0.25% more than a year earlier. 22% of the population is at least 65 years old, almost the same proportion as those under 20.
In 2025, 645,000 babies were born in France. That is 2.1% fewer than in 2024 and 24% fewer than in 2010, the year of the last peak in births. The total fertility rate continues to decline: after 1.61 in 2024, it stands at 1.56 children per woman in …

Do you know that Western Nations have experienced fertility levels below the replacement level for many DECADES. This is not just France. This is not news.

Pope Leo XIV met at the Vatican with Prince Albert II of Monaco
Pope Leo XIV received Prince Albert II of Monaco at the Vatican on Saturday. The Principality of Monaco is one of the few constitutionally Catholic countries in Europe and in the world, and in 2025, citing his Catholic faith, the Prince refused to sign a pro-abortion law in his country. During their meeting, they briefly discussed the good relations between the Holy See and Monaco, as well as shared concerns such as peace, humanitarian assistance, and the promotion of human dignity.

“Latin Mass Project” Seeks to Expand Knowledge of the Beauty of Tradition

I’ve been meaning to write about this for some time, and better late than never. I encourage NLM readers to check out the initiative called the “Latin Mass Project,” which has a website as beautiful as its subject deserves. Their flagship publication, the first of many to come, is Ad Altare Dei: Pew Edition.
This book contains the full texts of the Mass in Latin and English, explanations of those parts of the Mass which vary throughout the year, and clearly-marked rubrics. There are also boxes containing commentary on the gestures, prayers, and objects found within the Mass.
The first edition having sold out, a second edition was prepared with several improvements: gold foil cover detail, gilded edges, sturdier hardcover binding, and a ribbon, among other touches.
Each page features full-color photos taken at Old St. Patrick Oratory, the Institute’s apostolate in Kansas City, MO. Acclaimed by children and adults alike, this book is intended to be a beautiful, durable, and practical …

I wish people with tds would realize this, and things would be a lot easier. A new book is coming out tomorrow INVISIBLE COUP, by Peter Schweitzer, which may clarify things.

Police deployed to churches across Staten Island: On Friday morning, a man stormed the Eucharist at St Ann's Church in Dongan Hills, Staten Island, in the Archdiocese of New York. The police were called to the scene and attempted to escort the man out. The situation quickly escalated into a violent struggle at the altar table. Flowers were knocked over, forcing the priest to step aside. After breaking free and throwing punches at officers, the man was ultimately subdued with a Taser. He was arrested and taken to hospital for evaluation. This incident is the latest in a troubling series of crimes targeting Catholic churches across Staten Island. The New York City Police Department has increased patrols and visibility at churches.

The NYPD have deployed police to churches across Staten Island this weekend due to increased attacks on Christians, including a man who STORMED the altar during Mass last week
