Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, has renewed a 2018 directive requiring the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel to be recited after Eucharists across the Archdiocese. The instruction was included in a May 12 pastoral letter published on ArchdPdx.org The prayer should be said “after the conclusion of every Mass celebrated in the archdiocese,” describing it as part of a spiritual response to challenges facing the Church. The “Mission Renewal” initiative includes consecration of the archdiocese to the Sacred Heart, novenas, Eucharistic processions, fasting and penance, and works of mercy. There were episcopal consecrations almost 40 years ago, with the resulting excommunications, and today the SSPX looks the same as it did then and looks nothing like the Protestant service in the video. There is no reason to believe it will look like that in 5 years.

After more than 450 years, the Jesuits are preparing to leave the Belgian city of Liège, ending one of the region’s oldest Catholic educational traditions. Liège Diocese views the departure “with sadness, but also with deep gratitude.” The first Jesuits arrived in Liège shortly after the founding of the Society of Jesus in 1540. During the 16th century, they established major colleges in the city and helped shape its religious and intellectual life for centuries. In the 19th century, the Jesuits took over the Collège Saint-Servais on Rue Saint-Gilles, which became the center of their work in Liège. The Jesuit community on Rue Saint-Gilles will officially close at the end of the school year.
