During Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Piazza di Spagna on December 8, a minor incident occurred as the papal motorcade was departing. Two animal-rights activists attempted to display a sign calling for an end to animal fighting. Police intervened immediately and stopped the women before they could unfurl the banner. The popemobile briefly slowed, then continued its route without further issues.
The Archdiocese of New York on Monday announced it will set up a $300 million fund to compensate victims of sexual abuse who have sued the church. In a statement, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said the archdiocese would pay for the fund by reducing its budget and selling off assets, including completing the sale of its former headquarters in Manhattan, with the goal that the fund “can be set aside to provide compensation to survivors of sexual abuse.” The archdiocese has also agreed to engage retired Judge Daniel J. Buckley as a mediator between itself and victims to reach a settlement, Dolan said. Buckley had a similar role in negotiations between the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and more than 1,000 people there. A spokesperson for the archdiocese said church officials hope the fund would cover settlements for most, if not all of the roughly 1,300 outstanding claims against the archdiocese. The announcement came as a federal judge on Monday approved a settlement for the New Orleans Archdiocese…
In modern Britain, even the mildest statement of reality can be enough to trigger a punitive pile-on. The Telegraph reported yesterday that a teacher was sacked, and very nearly banned from working with children, because he told his primary-school pupils that the UK was a Christian country. The anonymous teacher found himself being referred to his local child-protection board and even at the centre of a police investigation after he told Muslim children off for washing their feet in the sinks of school bathrooms. According to one child who made a complaint against the teacher, he reminded the children that this was not a religious school, and that they were free to attend an Islamic school a mile away if they wanted to. He apparently also told them that Britain is still a Christian state and pointed out that the King was head of the Church of England. This was followed up in the classroom by a lesson about the importance of British values and tolerance. In response, the teacher was …
On 30 November, Cardinal Reinhard Marx consecrated the new table altar in the parish church of Maria Schutz in Munich-Pasing. The church’s sanctuary had been completely redesigned. The new altar table and the matching ambo are made of light-colored artificial stone and feature a wavy form. According to the artist, the wave-like contours are intended to echo the protective folds of Mary’s mantle. Round forms and circles are commonly used in various pagan religions.

We continue posting daily Advent reflections by the Church Fathers. It's a good way to prepare to celebrate Christmas. The reflections and quotations come from the book titled, Advent and Christmas with the Church Fathers by Marco Pappalardo. Introduction John the Baptist’s call to conversion resounds with the same power today that it did two thousand years ago. The desert of Judea is the emptiness of life, a lack of reference points, the loss of religious meaning, and decadence of values. God never abandons his people despite it all, and his Kingdom comes even closer through Christ’s Resurrection. None of us is wholly pure and exempt from the need for repentance: those who believe they are risk hardness of heart and deafness to the call to change paths. Reflection by Hilary of Poitiers, In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea [and] saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!’ (Mt 3:1-2). The place could have been more suitable for the …
Is there a definitive cause for the collapse in religious vocations? In this Pints With Aquinas episode, host Matt Fradd asks Sister Miriam Heidland, SOLT, a pressing question: Why are there so few religious sisters today? “I think part of it is the attack on spiritual motherhood and spiritual fatherhood…really, it’s the attack on man and woman, and like, who are we?” she begins. Sister Miriam then shares a personal story and offers her opinion on why there are fewer vocations to the religious life today. “I was talking with the bishop many months ago, and he was saying that in the 1960s…there was a religious community in Wisconsin that was receiving a hundred women a year. 100 women! And they built a brand new novitiate, and then by 1972, they were receiving just four,” she says. At this point in her conversation with the bishop, Sister Miriam says, he posed the question: “Women still have the capacity to say ‘yes’ to this divine invitation. What is preventing them?” Sister Miriam …
The number cause is FEMINISM, in my opinion. Young women have been brainwashed to want to "have it all" = career & 'family" although the latter needs to not be an 'oppressive patriarchal structure' but some self affirming set-up or divorce. Religious life is not even on the radar.
The ordination of new bishops for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X will be the great challenge in the coming years, German Father Franz Schmidberger, a former Superior General of the Fraternity, told Corrigenda.online on December 8: "It is being considered, but I cannot say when it will take place and how many bishops will actually be ordained." And: "The Fraternity will have to discuss this with Rome, which is an essential point, because in a normal situation, bishops cannot be consecrated without the Pope's permission."

President Donald Trump became the first U.S. President to issue a statement to Catholics on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception: Today, I recognize every American celebrating December 8 as a Holy Day honoring the faith, humility, and love of Mary, mother of Jesus and one of the greatest figures in the Bible. On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Catholics celebrate what they believe to be Mary’s freedom from original sin as the mother of God. She first entered recorded history as a young woman when, according to Holy Scripture, the Angel Gabriel greeted her in the village of Nazareth with news of a miracle: “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you,” announcing that “you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.” In one of the most profound and consequential acts of history, Mary heroically accepted God’s will with trust and humility: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Mary’s decision forever …
More theatrics. Trump is the king of useless gestures when it is regarding the American Catholic Conservative movement. And like their poster boy Raymond Arroyo they eat it up while Trump is slowly but surely surrounding us with his thugs.
