I'm happy reading and studying Tolkien's works, as I have an excuse to talk about Jesus when I find a Tolkien fan. In that sense, his works can actually help to convert souls.

I understand that DANGER which the priest is mentioning all the time, and is a very important topic nowadays, but he shouldn't have taken Tolkien as a bull's-eye, but exactly the opposite: showing the public all the christian meanings in Tolkien works. Some of his writings (like the Conversation of Finrod and Anthreth) have so much theological and christian implications, that at least me, only can get fascinated.
And please, I feel bad about the priest, as he is saying lies! When Tolkien was asked about he was a "Christian writer" he defined himself as a "Christian who writes". Being such a traditionalist Catholic believer, HOW could he say that the ONLY way to express the truth is by myths? Bad interpretation about some words with citation required.
One last problem is that some of Tolkien's works (or some of their parts) were written actually under Grace. I'm not talking about divine inspiration, but if you read the History of the Lord of the Rings (4 books about the composition of the novel), you can see that ideas, characters and a lot of stuff were written without Tolkien's own intention (and if someone thinks that is the Devil's influence, he must know that Tolkien said that "I never wrote a line without Our Lady's help").
