To speak about "paradigm shift" is a "relapse into a modernist and subjectivist way of interpreting the Catholic faith”, writes Cardinal Gerhard Müller on firstthings.com (February 20).
In the recent past Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, and Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich invoked a "paradigm shift" regarding Amoris Laetitia.
Müller noticed that interpretations of Amoris Laetitia do not become orthodox by the claim that they are in conformity with Francis' presumed intentions, rather, “They are orthodox only if they agree with the words of Christ preserved in the deposit of faith.”
The Cardinal admonishes that opposing things is a duty of conscience when the term "pastoral change" is used as a tool in order to sweep aside the Church’s teaching "as if doctrine were an obstacle to pastoral care".

Cardinal Müller is great - until it comes to drawing necessary conclusions and acting upon them.
