Cardinal Napier Runs Amok Against EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo

“Conservative” Cardinal Wilfrid Napier of Durban, South Africa, attacked EWTN journalist Raymond Arroyo on Twitter (December 3). Arroyo is appreciated for his weekly show “World Over” where he presents a courageous, firm and intelligent Catholic perspective.

Nevertheless, Napier compared Arroyo to the [fanatically anti-Catholic] Northern Ireland First Minister Ian Paisley (+2014), who “fulminated against the Catholic Faith in general and the Pope in particular”. In 1988 Paisley, the leader of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, called John Paul II the “Antichrist”.

In an indirect reply Arroyo published on Twitter (December 3) a quote of Mother Angelica, founder of EWTN: “It’s your obligation to speak the truth, and everyone can either take it or leave it.”

Cardinal Napier seems to fault Arroyo for the fact that Pope Francis is presently leading the Church into doctrinally and morally murky waters.
