Il est impossible d'oublier l'éloge hautement stupéfiant de la personnalité et de la Doctrine de Martin Luther, mérité par pas moins qu'un pontife romain, c'est-à-dire le Pape François, au cours d'un de ses discours impromptus habituels. Conversant en Italien et en Espagnol avec les journalistes accrédités alors qu'il revenait d'Arménie (w2.vatican.va/…/papa-francesco_… ), il a répondu à une question sur la relation entre l'Église Catholique et le monde Luthérien de la façon suivante :
« Je crois que les intentions de Martin Luther n’étaient pas erronées : c’était un réformateur.
