The news page of the German bishops denied on Thursday, that the words of consecration transform bread and wine into Christ's body and the blood. Quoting the German liturgist, Father Albert Gerhards, it warns of an alleged "magical understanding" of the Eucharistic Prayer. According to him the consecration does not happen in the moment of these words. For Gerhards the words of consecration have only a "catechetical function".
If Gerhards were right, then the words "this is my body" and "this is my blood" pronounced by the priest during Mass in the name of Christ, would contain a falsehood.
Gerhards also contradicts the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1377), "The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration".

If this is true that the German bishops deny transubstantiation and view consecration and a "magical understanding" and "catechetical", then these Masses are invalid as there is no proper intention. Their heresies widen as they move ever closer to Protestantism.
