ACLumsden: Yes, you are correct: we are to go forth and spread the good news to all about the Risen Christ. However, we can only join the Risen Christ IF we follow him and obey the Commandments, take up our cross, etc. This translates into shunning sin and living a life where the SELF does not rule. Sin traps and enslaves us and cuts us off - permanently if we don't seek forgiveness and AMEND our lives - and leads us down the slippery slope to Hell. Sodomites, Adulterers, Liars, (and all the other cardinal sins) are the trap that lead to Hell. Unfortunately, today the hierarchy of the Church has become apostate as has been foretold by Our Lady of Good Success back in the 1600s. The role of a Bishop (all Bishops) is to teach and guide the Church - as the Church has always done. The Faith is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Anything else is Protestantism.

Let's observe the “Catholic” manner in which Cardinal Schönborn supports homos and whether or not he attempts (even remotely) to educate them as to how they can leave their lives of debauchery?

It just seems that in this world, with all the evils attacking the Church and mankind, one finds that only a few mortal sins are singled out for constant coverage. (Not that they aren't mortal sins.) I wonder, is Syria and the terror attacks in Paris; the Trump situation in the USA and the utter destabilisation of the EU on account of Brexit less a threat to human civilisation? I was in Stephansdom Vienna for Easter Sunday, and heard Cardinal Schönborn's Easter Address: all that we read and heard in the media regarding his dubious theology, this address was stunningly Roman Catholic and reached out to all present. The bottom line? A simple rhetorical question: when will we allow the power of the Risen Christ to rise within us? He rose for all.....go forth and bring this good news to all. I reckon THIS is the job of all Prelates and Clerics AND each and every Christian. Meanwhile, we revel in dividing and condemning people. We just got to try harder in the evangelisation effort.

To ACLumsden's comment below: If I persist in mortal sin and do not amend my ways, I am cut off from the sacraments. If I rationalise my errors and see them not as the Church believes, then I incur further sacrilege by flaunting my errors in taking Communion, etc. We cut ourselves off from the Church by our sins. Sodomy, like adultery, is a MORTAL sin and cuts us off from the Church. "Go, and Sin no more" is what these Bishops and Priests should be telling these unfortunate souls who are stubborn in their errors and not try to accept and exonerate them in their errors. OH, what responsibility these prelates have before God at their judgement! God's ways are not our ways!

In case you haven't noticed, what has been occurring over the past decade or so is a growing and very successful effort to gain not just acceptance but approval for homosexuality and assorted deviations in many areas, including the church, the media, business and education.

Unfortunately, the turning away from sin by repentance and reformation are not mentioned (essential elements for all sinners to be forgiven) and are replaced by approval, welcoming soft smiles, hugs and now apologies from those in positions to know better. If it truly is our eternal destiny which ought to be the primary concern for all of us, this is clearly not the message homosexuals should receive from anywhere especially from our Church.

Excommunication is a medicinal, spiritual penalty that deprives the guilty Christian of all participation in the common blessings of ecclesiastical society. The one who eats and drinks of the Blood of Christ tramples his blood and the punishment is eternal. St. Paul recommends expelling the immoral from the Christian community and departing from them and having no contact with them under penalty of complicity. God took Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah, and those who do not depart from the immoral are like Lot's wife who do not follow the counsel of God but their own stubborn will.

Hmmmm, so what is the Church of Christ to do? Ignore them and cut them off? Meanwhile, the four gospels are strewn with examples of Jesus the Christ embracing even the most abominable sinner. Can a limb heal when cut off from the body? Can sin be remedied and the 'special deformity' corrected or borne, cut off from Christ? Folks, be careful that in trying to follow the rules in an infantile, sterile way, one does not become that which one is trying to denounce, viz. a profound sinner.
