Francis Finds the Presence of God

During his trip to Bangladesh Pope Francis claimed that “the presence of God today is also called ‘Rohingya’."

The Rohingya are a mainly Muslim ethnic group in Myanmar and Bangladesh. They are considered refugees and are not citizens of either country.

Talking off-the-cuff to Rohingyas, Francis made a reference to “the Judeo-Christian account of creation” – he meant the Bible. He mixed this with an account he ascribed as “a tradition of your religions” according to which God, in the beginning, tossed salt into water, that was the soul of all people. Francis concluded that “each of us carries within ourselves a little of this divine salt.”
