Pope Boniface II
Profile
Of Gothic Germanic ancestry. While archdeacon, he was nominated as next pope by Pope Saint Felix IV, who feared a schism after his death. Felix was correct as the Roman clergy elected Dioscorus. Both were consecrated but the schism ended in 22 days with the death of Dioscorus. During the pontificate of Boniface, the Semi-pelagian controversy was ended by the Second Council of Orange. Noted for his charity to the poor, especially his largesse during a period of famine in Rome.
