Well educated, he became a hermit upon the death of his parents, and soon developed a reputation for great personal sanctity. Reluctant bishop of Bourges, France in 811. Attended the Council of Toulouse in 829. Sat in judgement of Archbishop Ebbo of Rheims who had joined a revolt against King Louis the Debonair.
