Raised Protestant. Educated at Saint John’s College, Oxford, but was not awarded a degree because he would not acknowledge the queen as the head of Christianity in England. Converted to Catholicism. Seminarian at Rheims and Rome, Italy. Ordained in 1583, he returned to England in 1585 to minister to covert Catholics. Imprisoned four and a half years with Blessed Ralph Crockett in Marshalsea prison in London. Executed for the crime of being a priest. Martyr.
