Protestant leader battered by Muslim mob in Pakistan

October 01, 2012

A Protestant prelate was battered into unconsciousness by a Muslim mob that attacked his church outside Lahore on September 28, threatening to kill Christians in retaliation against the release of the film, “The Innocence of Muslims.”

Bishop Naeem Samuel of the Trinity Evangelical Church suffered multiple fractures when he was assaulted as he left a prayer service. The Protestant leader was apparently targeted because of a cable television show that has made him prominent. Bishop Samuel pleaded with his assailants to recognize that he, along with all other prominent Christian leaders in Pakistan, had strongly condemned the movie that has been the basis for protests throughout the Islamic world.
