Blessed Rosario Ciércoles Gascón

The daughter of Juan, a guitarist, and Maria, Rosario was educated at a boarding school run by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul. She studied music, played the organ, and was a member of the Daughters of Mary of the Miraculous Medal, a group centered on Marian spirituality, prayer and service. On 24 October 1892, Rosario joined the Daughters of Charity and began serving at the hospital in Madrid, Spain. She later taught music and art in schools in Barcelona, Barbastro, Madrid and Valencia; at each school she was know for her energy, enthusiasm and devotion.
At the outbreak of the persecutions in the Spanish Civil War, the Daughters were outlawed by the Communists. Sister Rosario hid in Puzol, Spain with her religious sisters, Blessed Micaela Hernán Martínez, Blessed Maria Luisa Bermudez Ruiz, and a priest. They were captured on 17 August 1936, dragged before a show trial court, and executed for refusing to renounce her faith. Martyr.
