The third minor order in the Latin Church. This office confers on the recipient the spiritual power of expelling demons from persons possessed, whether the persons are baptized or catechumens, by the imposition of hands, a practice known as exorcism. According to present usage the solemn exercise of this power is restricted to priests alone with the express consent of the bishop.
