María Fernández Coronel y Arana, Abbess of Ágreda (2 April 1602 – 24 May 1665) was a Catholic Franciscan nun and author known for reports of bilocation between Spain and New Mexico and West Texas in the 17th century. In religious life, she was known Sor (Sister) María de Jesús de Ágreda. Popular culture since the 17th century has also dubbed her as the Lady in Blue and the Blue Nun. She wrote a series of books about the life of Blessed Virgin Mary.
Throughout her life, María de Ágreda was inclined to the "internal prayer" or "quiet prayer". Like her countrywoman St. Teresa of Avila a generation earlier, these prayerful experiences led religious ecstasies, including reported accounts of levitation.
María de Ágreda is known for writing the Mystical City of God (Spanish: Mistica Ciudad de Dios, Vida de la Virgen María), consisting of 8 books (6 volumes). De Ágreda reported that she received a lengthy revelation, about the terrestrial and heavenly life of Blessed Mary. That revelation was received directly from the Blessed Virgin Mary. The revelation also included information about the Blessed Virgin's relationship with the Triune God as well as the doings and Mysteries performed by Jesus as God-Man in flesh and in Spirit. The information was revealed with extensive detail in a narrative that covers the New Testament time line. The narrative was also accompanied by doctrines given by the Holy Mother on how to acquire true sanctity. It is that narrative that comprises the Mystical City of God.
She attributed her writings to visions and dictations (word by word) from the Virgin Mary. Written in elegant Spanish, they contain both terrestrial and spiritual detail. Those details were either not known or not totally accepted at the time. These included the way the earth looks from the space (contained in her unpublished 17th Century "Tratado de rendondez de la Tierra"), the Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary, the Assumption of Mary, the duties of Michael the Archangel and Gabriel the Archangel, and meticulous detail on the childhood of Jesus. Other detail that Sor Maria provided included the Christ's Passion, Resurrection and Ascension.
Sor María's importance in religion, Spanish history, and the history of the American Southwest, is based on three grounds:
She was a prolific author, with fourteen books to her credit. Her signature work, Mystical City of God, the biography of Mary, (mother of Jesus), is now frequently studied in college and university programs of Spanish language and culture, for its contribution to Baroque literature.
At the request of King Philip IV of Spain, she served as his spiritual (and sometimes political) advisor for over twenty-two years, as documented in over 600 letters between them during that period.
Accounts of her mystical apparitions in the American Southwest, as well as inspiring passages in Mystical City of God, so stirred 17th and 18th century missionaries that they credit her in their own life's work, making her an integral part of the colonial history of the United States.
Less than ten years after her death, María de Jesús de Ágreda was declared as Venerable by Pope Clement X, in honor of her "heroic life of virtue." Although the process of beatification was opened in 1673, it has not as yet been completed.

She mentions the exact sins that Lucifer was guilty of after his creation. God first created the angels and Lucifer was the most beautiful and brilliant. God proposed to all the angels that The Second Person of the Holy Trinity would become man and that the angels would be required to worship Him as man as their Chief. This enraged Lucifer who refused to do this and demanded that if there was going to be a hypostatic union that he himself would be chosen for this role. When God also told them that he was going to create a woman who would be their queen, the Blessed Virgin Mary, he refused to consent with dreadful blasphemies and stated that he would have a rival kingdom and he would destroy both Christ and the Virgin and undo the entire human race. This greatly incensed God. St. Michael obtained permission from God to war against Lucifer and the 1/3 of the other angels who consented to have Lucifer as their chief. After they were cast down in Hell they had numerous conferences about how to beguile men and to sow seditions. Lucifer obtained permission from God to ask, on the Thursday after the creation, if he could persecute Christ and Our Lady. God granted some of his requests. This greatly pleased Lucifer but for many ages he searched the surface of the earth to see if he could find Christ and the woman who would crush his head. He at first thought that Adam might be Christ and Eve might be the woman as he was not shown how they were created. But when he heard God give them commands he realized it could not be Christ and he determined to try to make them fall as he really did so. I read that if men knew about the malice and the hidden warfare of the demons against us they would be very afraid. This book come in 4 volumes and after each chapter there are very profitable words from our Queen. This is the best Spiritual reading I know of. You can just read this over and over and you will know just what to do to lead a holy life. No person will be rewarded with eternal joy who does not make the effort required.
Carefully read all of this, and submit yourself to fulfilling the instructions and practicing the virtues that our Blessed Mother has asked of us.
The kingdom the power and the glory are yours, and yours alone Almighty Father through your Son Jesus Christ forever and ever Amen
I'm so pleased to have it on my Kindle. I would never have been able to paid for the complete edition in book form. The price would be too much for me to pay for. Thank You Amazon for the low cost.
Because this is a large volume, don't let that be a problem. Using E-Books, this is format, how it is done. I have turned to the different parts of the book, reading about Her birth, then jumping to read about the lost of Jesus. Going to one part to another, is no problem. I would not wait to read certain parts of her life. Then I when back to read it again, taking my time. Those who say that it is a problem, must live in the fast lane!
Anyone who wishes to read about the Blessed Mother will be filled with wonder! And grace. You will see why She is our Mother, and the Mother of the Church! She also speaks about the apostles.
I can never aspire to her greatness in the eyes of God, but I most certainly feel that imitation of her holiness and obedience is what He Himself desires.
I love and appreciate the humility and obedience of the Venerable Mary of Agreda. She too has set a great example for all to follow.
