We must build back fairer after Covid, Boris Johnson tells G7 summit

Boris Johnson has opened the G7 summit by telling world leaders they need to learn lessons from the pandemic to ensure that “we don’t repeat some of the errors that we doubtless made”.

Speaking in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, the prime minister also called on them to “build back fairer” in a “more gender-neutral and a more feminine way”, warning that inequalities threaten to become a “lasting scar” as the world recovers.

The summit is in danger of being dominated by a row with European leaders over the Northern Ireland peace process. Johnson is expected to clash with them tomorrow over what he calls their “excessive” demands for checks on goods going from Great Britain to Northern Ireland.
