Prince Alexander of Bulgaria
  • August 9: At the instigation of Russia , a group of pro-Russian officers put a coup against the Bulgarian Prince Alexander I and force him to abdicate. He is then taken to Russia. With the support of the Bulgarian parliamentary president Stefan Stambolow , who organized a counter-coup with the help of the military, Alexander was able to briefly return to the throne of Bulgaria. On September 7th he renounced Russian pressure but finally renounced the rule.
  • October 22: Another military revolt initiated by Russia in the Bulgarian city of Burgas is put down within a few days.
  • November 6th: The Russian Empire breaks off diplomatic relations with Bulgaria as a result of the Bulgarian crisis .
