Lawn cross in Meggen

The lawn cross in Meggen is an allegedly supernaturally caused floor picture in Meggen, a suburb of Argenbühl in the Ravensburg district, which has existed since June 30, 1972 .

Before his death in 1968, Augustinus Hieber , the so-called “blessing pastor of the Allgäu”, prophesied that after his death a miracle would happen in the Merazhofen parish .

On June 30, 1972, a farmer discovered a bare patch on a field that had previously been treated with artificial fertilizers . He paid no attention to this phenomenon. A little later a boy discovered a cross at this point. The cross is 3.30 m long and 1.60 m wide; the bar width is 20 cm. The pastor of Merazhofen responsible for Meggen reported the incident to the responsible episcopal ordinariate in Rottenburg. According to believers, investigations by the University of Hohenheim should not have produced any findings.

The Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese does not recognize the incident as a miracle.

Already after a short time the assumption was circulating that the lawn cross was not created by a miracle, but was created by a joker. A soil sample taken from the depression in October 1972 on behalf of the responsible dean showed that the soil was over-fertilized at this point , which meant that nothing could grow there.

In 2002, a prayer room was built by the lawn cross without official approval . In 2007, this prayer room was expanded with the approval of the Argenbühl community. It does not have the diocesan status of a place of prayer.

An average of 150 people visit the Lawn Cross every day. They hope to find healing from their illnesses or spiritual inspiration through the visit .
