Swego czasu dość szerokim echem odbiły się w Kościele i w mass mediach słowa Pawła VI z 1972 r.:
„Odnosimy wrażenie, że przez jakąś szczelinę, wdarł się do Kościoła Bożego swąd (dym) szatana.
Jest nim zwątpienie, niepewność, zakwestionowanie, niepokój, niezadowolenie, roztrząsanie […] Naszą świadomość opanowało zwątpienie. Ono wtargnęło poprzez okno, które wolno tylko dla światła otworzyć! […] W Kościele panuje klimat niepewności. Należało sądzić, że po Soborze słońce zajaśnieje nad Kościołem, zamiast słońca mamy chmury, burze, ciemności, szukanie, niepewność”.
Człowiek refleksji pogłębionej, wierzący kapłan ze środowiska warszawskiego, powiedział mi niedawno, odnosząc się do powyższych słów: „To prawda.Tylko rodzi się pytanie i trzeba je wyraźnie postawić:Kto tę szczelinę zrobił? Kto to okno szatanowi w Kościele uchylił?”.
Pytanie zasadne. Poważne. I dzisiaj aktualne.
