70 Years Together: Vince and June Werner, both 92 years old, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 22. They were married by Vince’s brother, the late Monsignor Martin Werner on Aug. 22, 1944. Vince was an architect and June was musician. They became residents of Missoula in 2006, where they are members of Blessed Trinity Catholic Parish and only recently retired from their weekly ministry at St. Patrick Hospital.

Patriarch Speaks Out: Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has written to the U. N. and other organizations setting out instances of discrimination against members of the Russian-Orthodox in Ukraine. Kirill expressed concerns over – quote - "attempts by the Uniates and schismatics to cause damage to the Ukrainian Russian-Orthodox.” He mentions the deaths of several of his priests killed in the armed conflict, the violence and intimidation against his clergy and substantial material damage caused to churches and monasteries, which have sheltered thousands of refugees.

Exemplary Priest: On August 18th Janet Eldred wrote in a letter to the Courier-Post that the exemplary priest, Father Carmel Polidano founding pastor of St. Rita’s Parish in Bellmawr had vanished and his parish was closed. A couple of days later Frank Malloy answered in another letter: “Worry not, I’ve found your priest. He’s in that Neverland where priests who adhere to what was the “faith of our fathers” are sent. Your priest dared to be a pastor when he should be running for mayor.” And: “The church does not reward excellence. It obviously rewards mediocrity, because that’s what I’ve been seeing for the last four decades!”

No Political Goodwill: The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal said to Vatican Radio that there is – quote – “no political goodwill” to arrive at a final solution of the problems in Gaza. He added: “What is a cease-fire if the conditions that lead to violence remain the same?” Twal said about the blockade of Gaza by Israel and Egypt: “If there were a normal life in Gaza: if there were streets leading outside, if there were an airport for travel, if there were a port, if the roads were open into and out of Israel, Egypt, and Jordan and people could do business, live, sell, travel, study, go to hospital and to university, we would not have frustrated and desperate extremists.”
