These 19th-century windows survived the 2019 fire untouched and are legally protected as historic monuments. This move ignores heritage law, disregards expert bodies that were never consulted, and contradicts the law of restoring Notre-Dame to its last known historical state. The proposal comes with an extraordinary price tag: over four million euros to replace windows that do not need replacing.

Swiss Auxiliary Bishop Marian Eleganti has criticised the Vatican study commission that has examined the impossibility of a female diaconate. In a post on his personal blog on 8 December, he argued that it was difficult to understand why the commission was unable to reach a definitive conclusion.
