Mater Misericordiæ.

This statue in St Matthew Cathedral, Washington DC is of Our Lady bending down to lift us up to heaven with her. The Cross stands in front, reminding us that it is through the Sacrifice of Christ on Calvary that we have access to heaven. This statue was sculpted by Gordon Kray in 1984 to replace the original in that Cathedral that was severely damaged by vandalism. Notice the Holy Spirit in the form of a bird depicted in the mosaic above Our Lady's head. Saturday's are dedicated to Our Lady, and we ask her to pray for us.
