It is easier to confess without eye contact to the priest. I love those old confessionals where nothing can be seen. It is, of course, also easier for women to confess in a more anonymous way, and there is less danger for temptations both to the priest and the woman. Many a sinful affair between a priest and a woman started in the confessional with close eye contact.
