THE BLESSED SOULS
OF PURGATORY
Francisco Vitali
For the signal...
INITIAL SENTENCE
O Mary, Mother of mercy: remember the children you have in purgatory and, presenting our suffrages and your merits to your Son, intercede so that he may forgive them their debts and take them out of those darkness into the admirable light of his glory, where they enjoy your sweetest sight and that of your blessed Son.
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, intercede together with your Wife before your Son for the souls of purgatory. Amen.
It is read about every day.
DAY 12
Meditation
Holiness of the souls of Purgatory
Why are souls condemned to the atrocious punishments of Purgatory? If the world considered them, I would call them trifles, games, fragilities of easy forgiveness or any crime. But not so God, who knows their intrinsic malice and punishes them according to their true gravity. Oh how diverse are the judgments of the men of those of God! We judge according to our whims and moved by the passions that dominate us, God judges with his unalterable justice that is not subject to prevention or error. So let's not be fooled by the false illusions of the world. The demerits of those souls are commonly believed to consist of so-called venial sins, which are light faults compared to mortals, but which can be called very serious compared to the offense made to God, infinite goodness. Well, if venial guilt is punished so rigorously in Purgatory, why do we pay so little attention to them until we drink them as water is drunk and have those who try to avoid them for scrupulous? Let us open, O Christians!, the eyes of the
Spirit on an object of such importance and let us propose to flee, as much as possible, from any defect, although slight, and let us not try from now on, but rather, let us imitate the caution and request of those pious faithful who for the love of God flee from the danger of all guilt as of the sight and the bite of a poisonous snake. There are theologians of deep doctrine who maintain that the crime of guilt is only referred in the present life through the sincere detest of sin and the infusion of sanctifying grace. Therefore, it does not stop any stain of guilt to the wives of God in the spy flames of Purgatory but only the punishment due to their faults, which can still remain, and often remains in fact, to be discounted in the afterlife. That is why the divine Scripture says that they will not get out of that tormenting prison, until they have given divine justice the most fulfilled satisfaction. How many debts do we have, according to the testimony of our conscience, for the faults committed? And where do we plan to pay them, in this life or in the next life? Let's consider how much more rigorous satisfaction is in the next life than in this one, and for the same reason let's propose to do it as soon as possible.
Prayer
Oh, yes! We know well, O Lord, that the satisfaction that your divine Justice demands of us for our past faults is much more rigorous in the future life than in the present and better than we know it, the souls of the deceased experience it in the midst of the most atrocious pains of Purgatory. For defects that to our eyes hardly seem so, or in pain of faults already erased and forgiven, use with them your justice with high rigor, which even the Son of man on the cross did not experience when he charged himself with the sins of everyone. O Lord, say enough your sovereign piety, and the mercies of this will resow the rights of the outraged justice for the sins and for the debt of those unhappy who suffer, for mercy must prevail over the rigor, and to justice your infinite goodness.
🌹Eternal Father, for the most precious blood of Jesus, mercy.

Let's pray. Oh my God, of whom it is proper to have compassion and forgiveness: we beg you pleading for the souls of your servants whom you have ordered to migrate from this world, especially for the souls of our relatives, friends and benefactors (they can be named by their proper name), so that you do not leave them in purgatory, but that you order your holy angels to take them and take them to the homeland of paradise, so that, because they waited and believed in you, they do not suffer the sorrows of purgatory, but possess the eternal joys. For Christ our Lord. Amen.
V. Give them, Lord, eternal rest.
R. And shine for them perpetual light.
V. Rest in peace.
R. Amen.
