No Bishop Every Visited - But Cardinal McCarrick Wrote a Letter

The first volume of Cardinal George Pell’s "Prison Journal" starts from the night before the verdict in the Melbourne County Court. He passed it sleepless, celebrated mass at 6 a.m. entrusting himself to Our Lady. The discussion of the sentence at the Melbourne County Court was for Pell “very surreal and Kafkaesque, as the judge listed the many reasons why the abuse was not plausible." Pell felt a strong resentment towards the Public Prosecutor, who clouded and confused, sometimes contradicted the facts to push the jury to make its bizarre decision.

For the First Time in Over 70 Years

After the verdict, Pell was brought to the Melbourne Assessment Prison. Quote, “I was arrested and searched by two Filipino guards, both law-abiding. One of them told me he had been in court and knew I was innocent.” Pell was put into solitary confinement, judged to be at risk of self-harm, and kept under observation during the night. Sister Mary O'Shannassy, the prison chaplain, used to bring him Holy Communion. Pell’s greatest suffering was not being able to attend or celebrate mass "for the first time in over 70 years".

A Letter from Cardinal McCarrick

Pell received many letters which were "all very encouraging". New York Cardinal Tim Dolan sent him – quote - "a nice couple of pages." In his letter, former Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony recalled the time when both were members of a commission to study the Holy See’s economic problems – quote Mahoney – “when so many of our questions were never satisfactorily answered and our recommendations were never taken seriously.” Pell also received a handwritten card from Cardinal McCarrick. The card was 80 to 90 percent illegible. The signature read, "Ted McCarrick, Catholicus, olim cardinalis" - translated: "Ted McCarrick, Catholic, once a cardinal". Since then, "Ted McCarrick 'olim cardinalis'" is on Pell’s prayer list.

Our Barbarian

Cardinal Pell received several visits in prison: family members, such as his nephew George, relatives, friends, but never a bishop. He watched a lot of TV, where he followed rugby matches or reports on his case. He describes Donald Trump as "a bit of a barbarian, but – quote - in some ways he is 'our' barbarian."
Holy Cannoli
. He describes Donald Trump as "a bit of a barbarian, but – quote - in some ways he is 'our' barbarian." 😱

The Full Quote::
He weighs in on everything (in the book) from the failed marriage of Charles and Diana to U.S. President Donald Trump, who he says is “a bit of a barbarian, but in some important ways, he is ‘our’ Christian barbarian.” 😇

From the above quote Cardinal Pell, although he has written that he got his information from TV, was able to separate the opinions of the leftist talking heads from content.
