"The Qur’an, he (Luther) insisted, demonstrated that the religion of the Turks was “utterly despicable and blasphemous”

Luther then embarked on a German translation of Riccoldo’s Confutatio Alkorani. While not a translation of the Qur’an itself, it was the first published translation of various verses of the Qur’an into German. (The first German translation of the entire Qur’an, by Lutheran pastor Salomon Schweiger (1551–1622), was not published until 1616). It was a very free translation; Luther shortened the text in places and added his own additions, often amplifying the distortions and mistakes in the original.

...meaning, again, Luther was throwing text out when he didn't like it (shades of what he did with the Bible) and simply fabricating text where it didn't exist.

Short version, Luther and Protestantism despised the Church even to the extent of happily collaborating with the Muslims, yet privately both sides had no illusions it was purely a political marriage, regardless of the pap they fed their followers.
