A Seminarian Saved the Blessed Sacrament from Daesh – Now He Is Priest in This Town

In August 2014 Martin Baani (26) risked his life to rescue the Blessed Sacrament in his church before the Islamic State (Daesh) invaded his hometown of Karemlesh, in northern Iraq. “I was the last to leave Karemlesh, with the Blessed Sacrament in my hands,” he told “Aid to the Church in Need”.

Baani did not emigrate with his family to the United Stated, but remained in Iraq in order serve “my people”. He continued his studies in the seminary in Erbil. In September 2016, he was ordained a priest. Now he will be working in his hometown which, in the meantime, was liberated.
