Another Church: Francis Celebrates Rupture With Roman Liturgy

Francis published June 29 the Apostolic Letter Desiderio Desideravi “on the liturgical formation of the people of God.”

He contradicts Benedict XVI's teaching of a "hermeneutic of continuity" between the Roman Mass and the Novus Ordo and exaggerates the huge tensions around the liturgy into an ecclesiological issue, thus fatally implying that the Novus Ordo comes up with another church which is not the Church of Christ.

He suggests that it is impossible to say to recognise the validity of Vatican II "and at the same time not accept the liturgical reform [allegedly] born out of Sacrosanctum Concilium.”

Therefore, Francis feels a “duty” to affirm that the failed Novus Ordo which is presided in every church in a different form is "the unique expression of the lex orandi of the Roman Rite.”

Francis believes that “we cannot go back" to Roman Rite and therefore goes back to the liturgical fights of the 1960s and 1970s. However, Francis' Second Liturgical World War will die with his pontificate.

⦁ “are on the road to perdition” is Present Simple Tense.
This tense describes the present state or condition of something or a habitual action.
⦁ “and are taking many souls with them” is Present Continuous Tense.
This tense is used to show that an ongoing action is happening now, either at the moment of speech or now in a larger sense. It describes an activity that is currently in progress. The present continuous can also be used to show that an action is going to take place in the near future. Consequently, Our Lady’s own words were meant for right then, at that very moment, on this particular date in 1965 and continuing during the Second Vatican Council. Please take a moment to think about what that implies.

“This message given by the Most Holy Virgin in Garabandal is the same that She gave in Fatima, but it is updated for our time.” - Bishop João Pereira Venâncio, Bishop of Leiria-Fátima, declared during an interview with Abbé Alfred Combe from France on 21 July 1983
⦁ Bishop Venâncio is the same man who had access to Sister Lucia of Fatima, who gave a detailed description of the Third Secret contained in the wax-sealed envelope by holding it up to a bright light, who officially commissioned a complete critical history of the apparitions, who had first-hand knowledge of everything that happened as the Bishop of the Diocese and who twice personally visited with Conchita González of Garabandal in her home in New York.

“There was a second appearance [of Our Lady] this time in Spain in Garabandal […] The message was very dire. Repetition of the Third Secret in brief form.” – Father Malachi Martin, declared during a radio interview on “Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell” on the 81st Anniversary of the Third Secret of Fatima on 13 July 1998
⦁ Father Malachi Martin is the same man who read the text of the Third Secret of Fatima in February 1960, who was an advisor to Pope John XXIII, and who spoke with Conchita González of Garabandal in New York.

When Pope Benedict XVI was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, (around 1990) he revealed to his friend, Father Ingo Döllinger, that in the Third Secret of Fatima Our Lady warns not to change the liturgy. Our Lady warned against changing the Mass and that there would be an iniquitous Council in the Church. – The first published account of Father Ingo Döllinger’s testimony, of which we are aware, appeared in an interview with Father Paul Kramer in Fatima Crusader Issue #92 in May of 2009.

In the Novus Ordo, the priest is in charge of the mass. In the Traditional Mass, the mass is in charge of the priest.

The NOM is legitimate and valid if and only if it is in continuity with the VOM. The burden of proof is on the proponents of the NOM to show its continuity. It is difficult for NOMies to even show that it flows from the text of Sacrosanctum Concilium and is not a protestant inspired invention of Bugnini's Concilium group. The NOMies need to make arguments and not resort to the Ad baculum fallacy. The hermeneutic of continuity is the only way forward. Clericalism, verbal violence and coercion are not the way of proceeding of the Good Shepherd.

How will you apply so-called "hermeneutic of continuity" to the rupture? To the insolent plan for sending the venerable ancient Roman Rite to the history dumpster?
It will be "hermenautics of continuity" (hermetic+nautics) not hermeneutic.
Vincent Capuano
The onus is on the NOMies to prove it. They are heretics if they can't. The logical and historical advantage belongs to the VOM. If you ask the Pope, he is the SC pope and that's exactly the raison detre of his entire papacy...Sacrosanctum Consilium -reinvigorating Catholics and modernizing the Church, unifying the world's religions. And, progressive Catholics believe he's doing a good job of it. The problem is, it's doing a lot of damage to Catholicism.
michael newman
Actually if you carefully read SC there’s NOTHING there that can support the creation of a new order of mass….admittedly like all the other VII constitutions, (and declarations and decrees) it’s ambiguous and with little time bombs scattered throughout. But nothing to justify what Bugnini and Paul VI did afterwards with it.

@michael newman Agreed, it's how PF is filling in the ambiguity with modernism.

The word "sacrifice" is used 6 times in this document. In each case, it refers either to the historical sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross or to the believer's sacrifice of praise during the "celebration." What is left out is the Catholic Dogma that in the authentic Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we find the same Sacrifice that Christ accomplished on the cross is made truly present in an unbloody manner on the altar. The Mass is not only about producing the Sacrament (the Eucharist) but requires the performance of the perpetual Sacrifice in order to be pleasing to God.

This true Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is primarily for the atonement of the ongoing sins of the world. By the priests performing the Holy Sacrifice, God's wrath is held back. When this perpetual Sacrifice of the Mass ends (Book of Daniel), we will experience "the Day of the Lord." Bergoglio makes it clear in this document that the Novus Ordo is not concerned with performing the perpetual propitiatory Sacrifice. He preaches a "new Gospel."

Instead, the Novus Ordo is only about a Supper (and a re-enactment of "the Paschal Mystery") that all of the baptized (stained by mortal sin or not) should participate, culminating in the taking of Holy Communion. Nowhere does Bergoglio repeat St. Paul's warning (and unchanging Church teaching) about the danger of receiving Communion in a state of mortal sin. As the Novus Ordosong says "All are welcome."

To all of you "Catholics" on the fence, you must decide. Do you want to actually be Catholic or not? If you want to be Catholic and follow Jesus, then attend the traditional Mass exclusively and abide by the consistent, traditional, pre-Vatican II teaching of the Church. If you want to follow Anti-pope Bergoglio into error, then attend the Novus Ordo "celebration" instead. In the process, the Wheat will be separated from the Chaff. But remember that the Wheat is harvested and the Chaff gets burned up.

Jesus Himself founded the Traditional Catholic faith, He Himself instituted the Traditional Catholic Mass and taught his Apostles how He wanted it done. Jesus Himself instituted the sacraments. Shame on those who try to change the true faith.

The Bible says that Jesus taught his Apostles in secret. St. Paul talked about the verbal traditions, which were from the Apostles and later codified in the Traditional Catholic catechism.
