That isn't what the author is arguing, Lisi. The author is cautioning us not to "question the veracity of the Church" simply because of "the varied degreess of shortcomings displayed by the human elements of the Church". Not just those of our current Pope, but also from many Cardinals and Bishops.

The author is arguing the Church is not its current leadership and fixating on the failings of the latter can wrongly lead to doubts about the truth of the former. That's certainly a correct position.

After all, we Catholics have been saying the same thing while criticizing the media for doing just that. They focus public attention on a tiny minority of degenerate priests and use those deviants to falsely malign the overwhelming majority of pious, chaste, and devout clergy who are not.

Because a few Church leaders ignored the problem, the media argues, the Church herself is corrupt, its teachings invalid (especially on social issues like homosexuality and abortion), and so on.

...all of which is a fallacy of composition and a non sequitur on their part, though persuasive to the ignorant and the already-biased.

The FSSP, novus ordo conservatives publicly state, "these wise words of Frank Sheed from Christ in Eclipse written in 1978." "I myself admire the present pope, Paul VI." Really?

You up for this? That's a yes or a no answer. You're either ready to back your claim with your site privileges as collateral or you ain't.

C'mon... let's do this. :D

When I mention the FSSP being novus ordo, I meant they accept the novus ordo mass and v-2 theology. That is part of their mission. See paragraph 6 of the FSSP constitution as regards the Motu Proprio Ecclesia Dei Adflicta. They are simply traditional novus ordo conservatives.

Elaboration: Heading is a strange sentence. Maybe it's a colloquialism of which I'm not aware. The body of the article gives me the sense that I just received a pat on the layman's head.
