The sole devastating aspect of this cold (virus) is the ignorance. This followed with their complacence, timidity, and passivity to speak up and assert that the government pay attention to the FACTUAL half of the situation (you know... the one that reflects actual unembellished statistics).

But, with the wave of a social media hand... billions fear a common cold with a death rate about the same as the 5 of the balance of the colds they turned a trivial misunderstanding into a global crisis.
