The kingdom of the heavens can be likened
to that carpenter who broke his hacksaw that
he had inherited from his father, who had
obtained it from his grand-grandfather.
That carpenter went for the first time in his
life to the mega tool store in the next city.
When he arrived at the department where
they were selling the new tools that he needed,
he was surprised by the variety of tools he
encountered.
He asked the owner: Why is this saw $400 and
why is this saw only $30.
Well says the owner: This saw is made in
Germany and this saw is made in China.
Which one is better? Was the following question.
They are both good says the seller.
So why the difference in price?
Well says the owner. In China the standard of
living is lower and the government represses
the people while the entrepreneurs extort
the workers and make them work 80 hours
per week for small wages. So they can sell
cheaper hacksaws to you.
Therefore the carpenter bought the German
hacksaw, because he did not want this on
his conscience.
Well there was a conscience boost, and many
people bought German saws and less Chinese,
so the Chinese entrepreneur laid off the
Chinese hacksaw maker. The harsh
circumstances that followed caused the
Chinese hacksaw maker to lack food for him
and for his family and they all died of hunger
and starvation.
Some years later the Carpenter also died and
arrived at the gates of the heavens.
There Saint Peter says to the carpenter: Do you
remember that German saw that you bought?
Well yes, answers the carpenter.
Do you know that you have sinned? And that
this caused that one man and his family
perished of hunger? Do you realize that his
blood and the blood of his family sticks to
your hands?
No answers the carpenter. I am very sorry.
Good says Peter: Do an act of contrition
and you may enter into the heavens justified,
because you repented from the heart.
The man proclaims his act and opens the
gate to enter, but one doubt slips
into his mind and he returns to Saint Peter.
Saint Peter: What would have happened if
I had bought the Chinese Hacksaw?
Well says Saint Peter: Then you would have
sinned to uphold and sustain the cruel
Chinese government and extortionists.
Such are the sins of this world.
Those are the sins that you will have to commit to
participate in this world.
God loved the people of this world so much that
he gave his only Son Jesus Christ, the lamb of
God, your Saviour who died on the cross to
remove the sins of this world, so that everyone
who has faith in him will have eternal life and
never really die.
Exactly those sins.
And all other sins are anathema.
