Death Certificate for Aborted Foetus from Canada.
This is an official death certificate given for an aborted foetus in Ontario in the 1930s. Abortion was illegal in Canada at the time with the exception of some very rare circumstances where it was permitted. Foetuses in Canada, as in the United States, during this time were given genuine death certificates as any other citizen of the popluation.
This changed a few decades later when foetuses were instead listed on a stillborn database that gave them different certificates in accordance with the rules of the World Health Organization (formed post 1945), and today they are still given stillborn certificates and not death certificates.
