USA: Laity Successfully Resist Francis' Rigidity
The local culprits for this are Cardinal Gregory and Bishop Burbidge. At a time of general collapse, these prelates are fighting the best of their laity.
Noah Peters, a lawyer and president of the Arlington Latin Mass Society, writes on CatholicHerald.co.uk (May 18) that these Masses had attracted growing groups of large families, young people, many converts, including Peters.
The surviving Masses are now being moved to out-of-town locations: small chapels, school gymnasiums, and parish halls while the Novus Ordo churches are empty.
Francis' fight against his faithful has galvanised them. They are donating time, money and hard work to beautify the new places of worship beautiful and organising weekly (!) rosary rallies outside the nunciature in Washington DC.
There have also been two major Summorum Pontificum pilgrimages, with hundreds of Catholics making the two-hour walk from Arlington to Washington Cathedral.
