LONGINUS' RELIC OF PRECIOUS BLOOD IN CHURCH IN ROME.

Giulio Savelli in 1708 donated to the Basilica of San Nicolas in Carcere the precious reliquary of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ which was in a border of the mantle of the Centurion. It was preserved by the Savelli family.
The Centurion had pierced Jesus with a lance to verify if Our Lord was dead.
This cloth-border was guarded because it had the Blood and water which flowed from the wound in Jesus.
This was the origin of the reliquary in the Basilica of San Nicolas in Carcere which is in the center of Rome near Piazza Venezia.
The festivity of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus occurs on the first centenary of the donation of the relic on 8 December 1808
The Servant of God, Francisco Albertini, Canonical of the Basilica, then Bishop of Terracina, Sezze and Priverno, founded in San Nicola in Carcera , a Pious Association in honor of the Most precious Blood.
San Gaspar del Buffalo, a young priest and spiritual son of Francisco Albertini, while preaching during Holy Mass, announced the forming of a Religious Congregation in 1815, the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood. He cared for and was inspired by the relic.
Saint Maria De Mattias, during a Mission that San Gaspar del Buffalo held in Vallecorsa (FR) in 1822, decided to form a Congregation of nuns. This Congregation came into being in Acute in 1834, under the title of Adoratrici del Preziosissimo Sangue.
From 1934 the venerated relic is in the Church of San Giuseppe a Capo le Case which is the center of the Venerable Arciconfraternita del Preziosissimo Sangue e Santissima Vergine del Rosario according to Mons. Antonio Silvestrelli, Rector of San Nicola in Carcera.
