In the Confessional: Young Dominican Priest Murdered

Dominican Father Joseph Tran Ngoc Thanh, 40, was stabbed to death on Saturday while hearing confessions at a church in Kontum, Vietnam.

He was slashed twice in the head and died in hospital at 11:30 pm despite immediate treatment. Father Joseph was the seventh child of his family. Born on 10 August 1981 in Saigon, he was ordained a priest on August 4, 2018.

The assassin is said to be a psychopath, but no further information is available. In 2021, Father Tran Van Truyen, 70, was fatally stabbed in Kontum Diocese.

Let's hope this isn't used as an excuse to suspend confessions. If it happens, you heard it here first.
Prayhard
In most diocesan churches, there are barely any confessions to suspend.
Cassandra Laments
@Prayhard No prizes for guessing why that is - nobody sins any more!!

@Cassandra Laments Quite so. Consider all the pious, saintly souls here on GTV alone. ;-)

What's bad is a Passionist priest who said Communion would be medicine for a particular mortal sin, which is fine, after confessing sin, but he seemed to say it in a way that the mortal sin was not a mortal sin. That's nice, Prayhard. The FSSP didn't suspend confessions either. Around these parts, the pastor and the Knights of Columbus jury-rigged a "confession screen" for the front door to the rectory porch. The faithful had to kneel outdoors in the middle of winter, BUT... everyone was submissive and compliant with the Bishop's orders.

Age and the faint onset of senility affects many elderly priests, but it has no bearing on their ability to hear confession.

Let's see of obese Jorge says anything about this horrific atrocity. Maybe he'll go and buy another CD.
