Liquidation of the Female Branch of Sodalitium Vitae Christianae
The FMR was the female branch of the Sodalitium Vitae Christianae and a Society of Apostolic Life with diocesan rights, founded by Luis Fernando Figari Rodrigo.
The suppression of the FMR, along with the other three institutes founded by Figari, is justified in the decree by the founder's "lack of charism of divine origin" and by "abuses and improper and abusive behaviour on the part of Figari and many of his collaborators".
The decree was signed on 14 January 2025 by Sister Simona Brambilla, Prefect of the Dicastery for Religious Life, and approved by Francis on the same day.
According to a statement on the FMR website Fraternas.org, the FMR has been "in the process of renewal since 2011" (sic), but "recognises that it has not been immune to psychological and conscientious abuses within its ranks".
In an earlier communiqué, dated 4 February, the FMR expressed "their compassion and solidarity with the pain of all those who have been affected over the years by the sectarian system and the abusive practices that have been reproduced within our community".
The sisters of the FMR have accepted their destruction "with docility and filial obedience".
In the two meetings held in Lima in February 2025, Monsignor Bertomeu stated that the suppression does not prevent those who belonged to the FMR from continuing their life of consecration to the Lord in the various ways provided for by canon law, either in a personal capacity or as associates.
The FMR had houses in Perú, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, the United States, Australia and Rome.
