Coordinator of Homeless Services in Rome Discusses Funeral Mass for Friend, Roberto Mantovani | EWTN

Today, the Papal Almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski paid his last respects to Roberto Mantovani, a 64-year-old homeless man, who despite his difficulties, was always ready with a smile for those he met on the street. Cardinal Krajewski, along with Cardinal George Pell, presided over the funeral Mass. Mantovani suffered from pneumonia and moved to a shelter at Rome's central train station where he passed away. During his time on the street, he made friends with the local police and volunteers who helped him. Coordinator of Homeless Services for the Community of Sant'Egidio and a friend of Roberto, Carlo Santoro, joins to tell us about who Roberto was and how they met. With Cardinal Konrad being very close to the homeless in Rome, Santoro shares what the cardinal's main message was at the funeral. The coordinator of homeless services also discusses whether he has seen an increase of homelessness since the start of the pandemic and shares what the city is doing to address it.
