Long live Christ the King!

Long live Christ the King! November 24 2019 Solemnity of Christ the King! Dear brothers and sisters, the passage from the Gospel of Luke that we will listen to on Sunday 24 November, Solemnity of Christ the King, enlightens us on two aspects of his royalty: His "style" of reigning and the "way" with which he exercises his just, even if unfathomable judgment. First of all, concerning the "style", Jesus, the Son in God, is crowned with thorns and his throne is a Cross! He is a Crucified King who, throughout his life, but especially on the Cross, manifests the beauty and purity unheard-of the love that God has for us. A divine love, which is the greatest force of transformation in the universe and which will provoke that explosion of life which is the Resurrection. As for "the judgment", Luke tells us that on Golgotha, together with Jesus, two other condemned men had been crucified, of whom one insults him, trying to impose his idea of "salvation" on Jesus. They are the ones who would like a God in "their way" who will never exist and never will be able to save them. The other, the good thief, "defends him and, humbly welcoming in the faith, the mystery of the annihilation of the Crucified Messiah, prays him: Lord, remember me when you are in your kingdom! Dear brothers and sisters, Jesus came to save everyone, but unfortunately, not everyone accepts to live and be saved in God's way", according to his style!
