German Homosex "Blessings" Are in Communion With Leo XIV - Monsignor Bätzing
"I utterly reject the insinuation that we in Germany are practising episcopal disobedience towards Rome, or embarking on a confrontational course with Rome." Bishop Georg Bätzing of Limburg, president of the German Bishops' Conference, made this statement on Thursday at the close of the bishops' meeting in Fulda.
"This is simply an unfounded construct and does not reflect my statement or the efforts of all the bishops."
On Monday, Bishop Bätzing had said that the German bishops would not withdraw their guidelines for "blessing" homosex couples.
Bishop Bätzing explained: "In the interview, the Pope made it unmistakably clear that 'Fiducia Supplicans' will not be withdrawn. The German guidelines, ‘Blessings give love strength’, are a pastoral realisation of 'Fiducia supplicans', developed in consultation with the Roman Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, tailored to the German context."
