Cardinal Sarah: This Reform Is IRREVERSIBLE - Despite Clerical Intransigence

History will remember Benedict XVI as a great theologian and as the Pope of Summorum Pontificum, Cardinal Robert Sarah told IlTimone.it (July 2).

He believes that with the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum began “a path of liturgical and spiritual REFORM" which in spite of difficulties, and resistances is "irreversible.”

Sarah acknowledges a new generation of young people and families which emerged in the Church “despite intransigent clerical attitudes of opposition” to the Roman Mass.

“This liturgy has a future because it has a past, a history of holiness and beauty that cannot be erased or abolished from one day to the next,” he observes. Sarah was ordained a priest in the Novus Ordo.

He avoided talking about Francis’ plans to harm the Roman Liturgy and twisted things by presenting the “clerical attitudes" of opposition against the Roman Mass as a “clericalism that Francis has denounced on several occasions.”

AccordingBenedict's own biographer, history will also remember him as one of the major architects of Vatican Council II. Summorum Pontificum was Benedict's way of trying to modify half a century's worth of damage. Even Judas tried to return the thirty pieces of silver and he was also a bit more prompt in doing so. ;-)

“The priest has the care of souls,” Sarah stated firmly.
“If he does not care about souls, he becomes useless. This means, for a priest, to take care of others, to be a ‘curate’ [curato, curé], like St. John Vianney.”

Regarding the crisis, the cardinal stated that everything “bearing in itself the clear signs of stability, immutability, and eternity” in our society — including both the priesthood and marriage — is in crisis. Sarah explained that because the “man of today” lives on sensations, emotional impulses and material things, he thinks a life dedicated to spiritual and supernatural values seems “impossible or absurd.”

“The priestly life falls victim to this crisis of modernity,” Sarah said.
“The priestly vocation is always born in the context of the faith in the man’s life and community, be it the family or the parish,” he continued.

“Without faith in God, he would not understand the reason to give his whole life for Christ, for the Church, and for souls, always. For many men today, the priesthood is … a useless life except and only when it concerns itself with the material needs of others.”

SSPX: pilgrimage and a new Crusade of the Rosary

Pictures of the Solemn Mass, of the public recitation of the Holy Rosary, and of the Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament, as the Sanctuary of Lourdes once again opens its doors and buildings to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX) during the weekend of Christ the King. The four bishops of the SSPX, who were consecrated by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in 1988, were present in the pilgrimage.

Regarding developments in the ongoing conversation between the leadership of the Fraternity and Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos, President of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei", the SSPX will start this Saturday a "Crusade of the Rosary" to "obtain from Our Lady the removal of the Decree of Excommunication", a "crusade" which will last from November 1 to Christmas Day.

This is a most auspicious development, considering that the last time a Crusade of the Rosary was proposed by the SSPX (in July 2006), its main intention was to "obtain from Heaven for Pope Benedict XVI the strength required to completely free up the Mass of all time, called the Tridentine Mass". All eyes to Heaven, and to Rome, in the next few months.
