Benedict XVI: “There Are Not Two Popes – The Pope Is Only One”

"There are not two Popes. The Pope is only one", a weak Benedict XVI who still is strong enough to give oligarch media interviews told the Corriere della Sera during a February 27 meeting, while tapping the palm of his hand lightly on the armrest in order to inforce his words.

His resignation was “a difficult decision”, he said, “I made it in all conscience, and I think I did the right thing. Some of my friends who are a bit ‘fanatical’ are still angry, they didn't want to accept my choice. I think of the conspiracy theories that followed: some said it was because of the Vatileaks scandal, some said it was because of a gay lobby plot, some said it was because of the case of the conservative Lefebvrian theologian Richard Williamson. They don't want to believe in a conscious choice. But my conscience is clear.”

About the new Italian prime minister Mario Draghi, "Let's hope he can solve the crisis, he is a man who is also highly regarded in Germany.”

About Joe Biden, “It is true, he's Catholic and observant” and that “he is personally against abortion (sic!).”

Benedict also noteces that “as president, he tends to present himself in continuity with the Democratic Party line.... And on gender policy, we still don't really understand what his position is (sic!)."
