Cardinal Aveline: Latin Mass Catholics Must Accept Vatican II

The Mass in the Roman rite touches on the very idea of tradition in the Church, Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline of Marseille, president of the French bishops, told KTO on April 5.

Bishops are called to show “pastoral solicitude” toward those Catholics: “First, to welcome them. It is not about judging them.”

He added that this welcome should not begin by trying to redirect them and “not to say: 'they should go elsewhere or do it differently'.”

At the same time, Cardinal Aveline emphasized that this welcome must remain within the framework of official Church structures: “Tradition goes all the way to the last council, including the Second Vatican Council.”

Cardinal Aveline added that the liturgy and Vatican II “is not necessarily irreconcilable” as there is “a hermeneutic of continuity”. Councils “do not abolish previous ones.”

On the announcement of episcopal consecrations by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X., Cardinal Aveline spoke of “a cause of sadness.”

He believes: “It is not the first time in the Church that a council has been difficult to receive.”

The Feeneyite traditionalists at the St. Benedict Center in Richmond, New Hampshire, USA, who attend only the Latin Mass, accept Vatican Council II but interpret it rationally, unlike Cardinal Aveline. They also accept the Catechism of the Catholic Church rationally and traditionally unlike the French bishops. The French bishops and traditionalists in France should do the same. Vatican Council II irraitonal creates schism. Vatican Council II rational and ecclesiocentric has the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition.

Yes Vatican Council II interpreted irrationally is approved by the Masons. But Vatican Council II interpreted rationally could be considered Anti Semitic or fundamentalist by the political Left.

Vatican Council II interpreted rationally, is ecclesiocentric and traditional. It is aligned with the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus, the Athanasius Creed and an ecumenism of return to the Catholic Church, of the Syllabus of Pope Pius X. It is in harmony with all the Catechisms including the Cathechism of Pope Pius X and John Paul II, on the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus etc.

No one has ever been able to agree about what exactly we are required to accept from Vatican II. Even the particular innovations of it (such as religious liberty) are understood very differently by different theologians and bishops, with precious little indication of, or conflicting accounts of, the "correct" reading.

When Vatican Council II is interpreted rationally it is traditional and ecclesiocentric. It is aligned with the ecclesiology of the Papal States in Europe. So in harmony with Tradition, it is in harmony with the Catholic Church of the 1930's.So Collegiality, Liturgy, Ecumenism, Mission, Dialogue etc are no more controversial for conservative Catholics.

He is referring to Vatican Council II irrational and not Vatican Council II rational. The Council interpreted rationally supports the traditionalists and not the liberal French bishops conference.
