Delegat of the Dutch Salesians Removed

Netherlands

Ultraliberal 73 years old Father Herman Spronck, the delegate of the Salesian delegation in the Netherlands, was removed from his position following the publication of comments in which he stated that “pedophile sex could be accepted.” Father Jos Claes [Klaas], the provincial of the Salesians in Belgium and the Netherlands said: “We fully distance ourselves from the words we find in the interview with Herman Spronck.” Father Spronck made his comments after a Dutch news agency discovered that another Dutch Salesian priest had served on the board of an organization that seeks to legalize pedophilia.

Young Christian Girls Abducted in Egypt

Egypt

Coptic Orthodox Christians in Egypt report that young girls are being abducted from their families, to be converted to Islam and married to young Muslim men. Once they convert to Islam—often under compulsion—the young women are prevented from returning to the Christian faith. Egyptian law makes no provision for Muslims who wish to leave their religion, even if they are seeking to return to their original faith.

Cistercian Abbey in Rome Suppressed

Rome

Following an apostolic visitation, the Vatican has suppressed the Roman Cistercian abbey of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. The abbey was formally suppressed in March, by a decree from the Congregation for Religious, signed by the prefect, Archbishop Joao Braz de Aziz. The Cistercian monks living in the monastery were given two months to relocate other abbeys. The Vatican has not made a public announcement of the unusual move. There had been reports of liturgical and doctrinal abuses at the abbey, established in Rome in 1651. Its suppression appears to be the final outcome of a long conflict with the Vatican.

Indian Woman Killed for Being Pregnant With a Girl

India

The Indian man Prakash Chari beat his wife to death in the southern Andhra Pradesh state, after learning that she was pregnant with a girl. The woman was six months pregnant and had already born a girl child a few years earlier. Her husband was outraged after his wife refused to abort her second girl’s pregnancy. The murder happened after the couple had returned from a private clinic, where the woman underwent an illegal sex-determination test. India outlawed sex-determination tests in a bid to cut down on the common practice of aborting girl babies. At least 5 million girls are estimated “missing” in India during the past decade as a result of sex-selection abortions.

Greetings Diona! 🤗 Today, might it also be the Feast of Bede the Venerable (Beda Venerabilis)? I see that the old Kalendarium has him on the 25th May, but the 1962 version names him a Confessor and Doctor of the Church and puts him as a 'Double' on the 27th May; the post-Vatican II version has him as a commemoration on the 25th May.

That British scholar and monk of Wearmouth-Jarrow in Northumbria, UK, is rather important for the English Church (Roman Catholic that is...) and the English people. With his works, e.g. A History of the English Peoples, and A History of the English Church, we English get a vignette into our early Christian heritage so soon after St Gregory sent St Augustine to Canterbury in the sixth century to convert our ancestors- and how quickly the faith spread!

Disappointing not to have Bede mentioned or even included in the caption to the news broadcast today....

Thanks for the News Updates. 😇 🤗

That's not enough.

In a better time and place Herman Spronck would have been pilloried, tortured and burned not only because of his incredibly evil comments but as a clear message to others who may be inclined to make similar statements further embarrassing and humiliating the Church they claim to serve.

A pleasant Good Morning, Doina.
