In April 2022, a media tsunami hit anti-Catholic Jesuit Felipe Berríos, 66, a public figure in Chile and founder of several NGOs, after he was accused of “sexual abuse”. His priestly faculties were suspended. Berríos filed a self-denunciation but the Prosecutor's Office didn’t press charges. His lawyer, however, went further and requested that Berríos be declared innocent by a court. Now, a court in Santiago has ruled that there was no crime and finally acquitted Berríos who has since left the Jesuits after 42 years but remains a priest.
