Amish Covid - Full Measure. When it comes to actions taken to address the Covid-19 threat, hindsight is still very much underway. For your consideration: a story and outcome you probably aren’t hearing much about anywhere else. It takes place in the heart of Amish country.

Uncanny parallels notwithstanding @occasnltrvlr The Amish are anabaptists, not Catholics, thus they are outside The Church and in error.
occasnltrvlr
Wow. Good to know.
Ultraviolet
Sarcasm doesn't suit you, sweets. Least of all when you're in the wrong by favorably comparing heretics to Catholics.
occasnltrvlr
Some people call steps in the right direction "evangelism".

MANY things don't suit you, Ultraviolet (including directly contradicting St. Alphonus's theology, as well as CONSISTENTLY stating the obvious as if somehow thought is unique to you), but somehow none of that ever seems to stop you.

"Some people call steps in the right direction "evangelism". Praising the lifestyle of heretics isn't "evangelism" unless you're evangelizing on their behalf. ;-)

"including directly contradicting St. Alphonus's theology"

Zero evidence shown. Protip: St. Alphonsus included anabaptists in his History of Heresies ,

Thought is certainly unque to one of us and I'm not drawing favorable parallels to heretics. After all, many of your "uncanny parallels" also apply to Islam. Like so:

-They observe formal days of fasting
Ramadan

-Church membership is based upon geography
...as is regular Mosque attendance.

-They, although rarely, excommunicate church members for egregious behavior
Takfir

-They are forbidden from formally studying "non-Amish" theology
Likewise, even to the extent of killing those who do, based on the Hadiths.

-They always dress modestly
Likewise, especially for fundamentalists.

-The ladies invariably wear head coverings
Hijab/ Burqua

-They usually marry around age 21
Muslims encourage even younger ages

-They very, very rarely divorce
Likewise. For example, in Turkey and Egypt, 90% of couples stay together.

-Couples welcome children, and have big families
Likewise. Islamic birthrates will surpass Christian ones in our lifetime. Depending on which stats are cited, they already have.

-They are very often misunderstood outside of their own community
:P ...like those Islamic State jihadists. They're not bad gaiz... they're just misunderstood. :P

-They believe in and readily accept sex-specific roles in family life
Likewise, the Hadiths teach Mohammed banished those who were "Mukkhannath"

-They have very great respect for, and live by, the church rules they are taught
Likewise, and that's putting it mildly when it comes to hard-line fundamentalist Islam.

So, based on all those "uncanny parallels" should Catholics favorably reconsider the religious merit of Islam as well? Shucks, no.

There are many uncanny parallels between Amish practices and traditional Catholicism:

Just as God promises in Deuteronomy 28, by-and-large, they strive diligently to obey God and follow His commands as well as they know how, and, by-and-large, they receive the commensurate promised blessings. Looking at it economically, each of the families I know of is, monetarily, worth well into the seven figures. Even though they're fully aware of that, they count it as nothing, because their primary purpose is to live a life in conformity with God's commands.

Only our Lord, in His infinite love, wisdom, mercy, and justice, can sit upon the Judgment Seat.
Facts Not Lies
If I remember correctly they were from a reformist Anabaptist Christian sect.

Similarities are likely because of their general approach to the Bible as their only rule for faith and life
Ultraviolet
You remember correctly.

I visited them in Pennsylvania each time I went there...
They allowed me visit and one family took me in for a few meals ... I shoveled equine byproducts as a payment. But, I was never there overnight.

They only use solar & battery power, no electricity. They can survive an EMP strike, famine & food shortages because they grow & preserve their own food. They still have large families and will be the few remaining European Caucasians left in America in 50 years. We are being replaced with people from third world countries. Only the Amish & Japanese remain homogeneous cultures in Western countries today. The rest have been sold out by the Marxist globalists!

They don’t have a covid problem because they don’t watch tv.
Facts Not Lies
I have not watched TV for almost 30 years.
I don't have a COVID problem... the kids do because of (anti-)Social Media

They sure dress modestly! Our Lady of Fatima told that to St. Jacinta!

These Amish are better Catholics than a lot of Catholics.
