Martyr Cardinal Isn’t Beatified – For Political Reasons

The Vatican is accused of not starting the beatification process for Cardinal Ignatius Kung (+2000) for fear of offending the Chinese Communists, UcaNews.com (March 17) writes.

Kung spent 30 years in jail for his refusal to reject the Pope.

"Pushing for Cardinal Kung's beatification is a waste of time, the Vatican would not accept it," Cardinal Joseph Zen is quoted.

In June 1979, John Paul II namend Kung a cardinal "in pectore" (secretly) when Kung was still in prison.

In ancient times its was the faithful in a particular area that acclaimed Saints, the Church then confirmed thier acclamation. It was from bottom to top. The faithful already know that Cardinal Kung is a Saint as well as ArchB Fulton Sheen.
